Decking the Halls at Hilltop Haven

Our Ladies' Ministry (as well as some children) met on Saturday, December 5, to spread a little Christmas cheer to a very special group of people--the residents of our local nursing home. We adorned the main dining room with a full decorated tree. We shared cookies, fruit, and punch with them. And most importantly, we shared smiles, conversation, and the love of Christ with them. Both the ladies and residents were truly blessed!

Our first event, "Get Ready for Christmas with Your Girlfriends!" was a great success. Session topics included scrapbooking, cake decorating, jewelry making, holiday crafts, and bowmaking. There was also an awesome general session with Andrea Allen, local financial planner. She challenged women to keep Christ up front during Christmas and also presented strategies to help minimize stress and craziness during the holidays.

Stuck on Halloween

A week before Christmas Jonah and Glory, two of my wonderful grandchildren, stayed at the house for the whole day. This gave Jonah and me time to catch up on some projects that we hadn’t had time for since Miss Glory arrived on Sept. 25th. We unloaded the “fish closet” of all the Christmas decorations that were still packed away from last year. Why is it called the “fish closet,” you asked? It is also loaded with David’s fishing rods and anything else related to fishing that you can imagine. So how do Christmas decorations fit in with all that? It used to be the “Christmas closet” if that tells you anything.

As we unloaded the decorations Jonah noticed a new book on my shelf. He loves to read anything so, of course, this book caught his eye immediately. He said, “Granmary, look, a Halloween book!” I was puzzled because the title of the new book is Merry Christmas, Curious George. Why did he think this was a Halloween book? As many times as I told him it was a Christmas book, it never seemed to get through to him. His mind was made up, and he wasn’t budging! All his attention and thoughts were stuck on Halloween.

I hope you aren’t stuck on something that takes your focus away from Christ. Problems at home, worries at work, difficulties with making ends meet, your health, ... Where is your focus?

Think for a moment to what your life is all about. As a Christian, Jesus is your life .This year I pray you will remember the cross and how much God loves you. Keep your focus on Him, and please don’t get stuck on Halloween!
